Frequently Asked Questions
What is the adoption process at Platinum K9S?
The journey begins with a detailed application so we can learn about your lifestyle, goals, and experience with dogs. Once approved, we’ll help you choose a puppy that’s a strong match for your home and expectations. From there, you’ll place a deposit to reserve your puppy and we’ll guide you step‑by‑step through pickup or transport.
Do your puppies come with health guarantees?
Yes. All Platinum K9S puppies are vet‑checked, vaccinated according to age, and dewormed on a regular schedule. Each puppy comes with health records and our health guarantee outlining what is covered. We’re transparent about all testing we do on our breeding dogs so you know exactly what you’re getting.
What is included when I bring my puppy home?
Every puppy goes home with AKC registration papers, current vaccination and deworming records, and a starter supply of their current food to help with the transition. You’ll also receive our written care recommendations and ongoing access to us for questions as your puppy settles in.
Is there a deposit, and is it refundable?
To reserve a specific puppy, we require a non‑refundable $500 deposit. This deposit holds your puppy until the agreed‑upon pickup date. The deposit is applied to the total purchase price. Because we turn away other interested families once a puppy is reserved, deposits are non‑refundable except in rare situations at our discretion.
Can you arrange transport for out‑of-state families?
We welcome families to pick up their puppies in person at our Cascade, Iowa location whenever possible. In some cases, we can help coordinate ground transport or meet partway for an additional fee. Safety and low‑stress travel are our top priorities, so we’ll discuss options with you and choose what’s best for your puppy.
When can my puppy go home?
Our puppies are typically ready to go home starting at eight weeks of age. This allows them time for crucial early socialization, time with their litter, and vet checks before leaving. We’ll schedule your pickup in advance and keep you updated with photos and notes as your puppy grows.
Do you offer support after I bring my puppy home?
Yes. We’re here as a resource long after pickup day. You can reach out with training questions, health concerns, or guidance about living with a working‑breed dog like the Belgian Malinois. We want every match to be successful and are happy to support you for the lifetime of your dog.
What is the training program?
Our training program is designed specifically for Belgian Malinois. We focus on building solid obedience, clear communication, and real‑world manners so your puppy can become a reliable partner at home and in public. Training blends structure, mental engagement, and fair leadership, and can be tailored toward active family life, sport, or working roles depending on your goals.
Do you offer add‑on training packages?
Yes. We offer optional add‑on training packages that can be customized to your goals. These may include extended obedience, leash manners, crate training, place work, and exposure to real‑world environments. Add‑on packages can be started while your puppy is still with us or scheduled after your dog is home, depending on what works best for your family.
Do you offer service dog prospects or finished service dogs?
Yes. On a limited basis, we produce service dog prospects for qualified handlers and programs. These puppies are carefully selected for stable temperaments, resilience, and clear, confident working ability. Fully finished service dogs require a much longer, case‑by‑case process and are not always available. If you’re interested in a prospect or a finished dog, please contact us directly to discuss your specific needs and timeline.
Do you offer protection‑trained Belgian Malinois?
On a very limited basis, we can offer protection prospects and started or trained protection dogs for suitable homes. Our focus is first on stable temperament, clear nerves, and solid obedience before introducing any protection work. Because this level of training and responsibility isn’t right for every household, we carefully screen interested buyers and discuss goals, experience, and lifestyle before moving forward.
